UACT Annual Celebration Dinner

United Action will be holding its 15th Annual Justice Celebration Dinner on Wednesday, August 2nd 2023 at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek, 55 East Kings Highway, Chester. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the program will begin at 7:00 pm.
This is a departure from our traditional date of early June, but with the legislative session also having ended in early June, and other events happening at that time the celebration committee decided to move the dinner to the August date.
Once again, we will be sponsoring our homemade, ethnic, pot luck menu for dinner, we will be honoring special groups for their social justice work and we have a keynote speaker to highlight the program. For the first time we have decided to make admission free. This is our way of saying thanks to all the people who have supported UACT over the years and worked tirelessly for social justice causes.
Our theme this year will be “teamwork”, and we will honor the Food Justice Team from the Health Collaborative in Southeastern Connecticut and the Manos Unidas Mental Health Team from New Britain. Both these groups have shown the importance of working together to provide a great need in their communities.
Our keynote speaker will be Attorney Lonnie Braxton from New London. Attorney Braxton is a retired state prosecutor and assistant state’s attorney for juvenile matters. A dynamic speaker, attorney Braxton grew up in segregated, Greenville, Mississippi and has become somewhat of a historian in New London. He has devoted much of his time creating a Black History Month display each February in the city’s public library. He has a rich history on a variety of social justice subjects, and we are honored to have attorney Braxton as our guest speaker.
