CIRC's 23rd Annual Immigrant Day Ceremony

Since 1996 CIRC (Connecticut Immigrant & Refugee Coalition) has honored immigrants who have made lasting impacts in our communities in our Immigrant Day ceremony hosted at the Connecticut State Capitol. This prestigiuos award honors the diversity of achievements and contributions by immigrants in the state of Connecticut.

This year's ceremony will be officiated by Steven Hernandez, Executive Director of the Commission on Women, Children, Senior, Equity and Opportunity (CWCSEO), and will include remarks by Stephanie Thomas, CT Secretary of State.

This year's award recipients are;

Esam Boraey: Originally from Egypt, Mr. Boraey is a human rights activist working for freedom and democracy in the Middle East.

Leon Chameides: Born in Poland, Dr. Chameides came to the U.S. in 1949. Dr. Chameides was the founding Chair of Pediatric Cardiology at Hartford Hospital, and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, and Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut Scool of Medicine.

Olena Lennon, PH.D.: is an adjunct professor of Political Science and National Security at the University of New Haven. Dr. Lennon came to the U.S. from Ukraine.

Dr. Jyothi Vayalakkara: is a Clinical Neuropsychologist who has been immersed in her work with mental health and complex trauma for more than two decades. Dr. Vayalakkara immigrated to the U.S. in 1992 from India.
