Utica: The Last Refuge

April 03, 2023
7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Cine Studio, 300 Summit St., Hartford, CT 06106
We are bringing Utica:  The Last Refuge to CineStudio in Hartford on the evening of April 3rd.  Utica:  The Last Refuge explores how one city, Utica NY, has benefited from making refugee resettlement a public policy priority for over 30 years.  The film focuses on Utica's principal resettlement organization, The Center, and follows a Sudanese family during their first 2 1/2 years in America.  Audiences have the opportunity to examine the challenges refugees face and to explore the many ways members of the community welcome the city's newcomers. The story is inspiring, hopeful, and educational.

The screening will be followed by Q&A led by Trinity students and young refugee community leaders in Hartford (Erna Alic and Anthony Tembera) who will guide us in thinking about the implications of this documentary for Hartford. We will be joined by the filmmaker, Loch Phillipps. We hope you can attend and participate in this timely conversation.
