Waterford RISE (Residents for Inclusion and Equity) is sponsoring a book panel discussion on Saturday, February 11, 3:00 PM at the Waterford Public Library.

Ann Lane Petry, born and raised in Old Saybrook, Connecticut, wrote novels, short stories, and children's books, as well as numerous articles. Her novel The Street was one of the first to address the experiences of Black women in terms of race, class, and gender. This ground-breaking novel, published in 1946, was also the first book by an African-American woman to sell over a million copies.

Panelists Lonnie Braxton, historian; Jose B. Gonzalez, Professor of English at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy; and Kate Rushin, Professor of English at Connecticut College- will share Ann Petry's story and highlight her legacy.

Moderator will be Stephane Browder. Food and childcare will be provided.
