Walking with Al for Immigrants in America

October 21, 2018
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Federal Building, 450 Main Street, Hartford, CT 06103

Al Dorman is a 79-year old man with severe scoliosis and spinal stenosis who has been walking for immigrants every day, 2.2 miles each day, since January 25th, 2018. On October 21st we are sponsoring "Walking with Al for Immigrants in America" to bring to the attention of American citizens at a national level the contributions of immigrants to the economic and cultural well-being of our nation. The walk will begin at the Ribicoff Federal Building, 450 Main Street, Hartford and will proceed to six locations before ending with a rally at the Federal Building. We will have a two minute talk at each of the six locations tying that location to immigrant history. We are inviting a rabbi, a minister, an imam, and a priest to be among the speakers. This will be an introspective, family oriented event focused in the unity of diversity. We urge parents to bring their children with them; we think it will be a wonderful experience.

As a sign of our national solidarity with immigrants, we are inviting immigrant advocacy organizations across the country to organize "Mirror Walks" on the same date in their local communities. We hope to deliver a powerful but positive message both to our politicians and to the national press. Congress must do what it has been unable to do for the past 17 years. Leaders in both parties must rise above the fray and negotiate complete immigration reform that includes legal status and a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants.
