Public Hearing on Lawrence & Memorial / Yale New Haven Health System Merger

<p>A public hearing on the proposed Lawrence &amp; Memorial Hospital merger with Yale New Haven Health System is scheduled for Monday, June 27th at 3:00 pm. &nbsp;The hearing will take place at the New London High School Auditorium 490 Jefferson Ave., New London CT. The Office of Health Care Access (OCHA) has scheduled this hearing to discuss the Certificate of Need (CON) for the L&amp;M/YNHHS merger.</p> <p>UACT is concerned about the implications of this merger. &nbsp;Yale New Haven Health System wants to take over Lawrence &amp; Memorial in an "affiliation" that gives Yale complete control of our community hospital, and the doctors it employs. With 60 % of control of hospital business on the Shoeline from New York to Rhosde Island, Yale will be able to cut services and raise prices.</p> <p>This has happened in other parts of the state. Hartford Health Care promised no service cuts at Windham Hospital, and now the critical care unit is closed and some patients are helicoptered to Hartford for treatment.</p> <p>Based on the concerns of hundreds, community members, patients and civic leaders from the greater Thames River and New Haven area are coming together to pledge support for a vision for the future of healthcare in this region.</p> <p><strong>Come out to join the fight against corporate greed.&nbsp;</strong>Attend the hearing to show your support and consider testifying on behalf of patient and consumer rights.</p>
